HTML stands for Hyper Text markup language, is one of the Markup language which is used to present content on webpages / websites. There are various markup languages which are used for different purposes. Examples of other Markup Languages are XML which stands for Extensible Markup Language, XAML which stands for Extensible Application Markup Language), GML which stands for Generalized Markup Language , SGML which stands for Standard Generalized Markup Language etc.
What are HTML editors
HTML editor can be a simple text editor like notepad or some improved text editors like Notepad++, Some HTML editors are WYSIWYG (WizeeWig) which stands for What You See Is What You Get. The WYSIWYG Editors are used to see results as you type code. WYSIWYG editors mostly have a code window and design window, if you don’t want type HTML code, you can use Design window which allows you to drag and drop or insert HTML elements (tables, images, lists, form elements etc.) visually without writing code. When you use WYSIWYG editor design window , it automatically generate HTML, CSS,JS code for you. Examples of WYSIWIG Editors is Microsoft Office Front Page and Adobe Dream Weaver. Every IDE (Integrated Development Environment) which allows you to design and develop websites also provide you design window and code window for making web pages. Examples of IDEs which can be used for website design and development are Microsoft Visual Studio , Atom, Sublime, Visual Studio Code etc.
